The Saint Ambrose Society meets weekly for fellowship at a local restaurant every Tuesday. Any Catholic young adult man (21+) is welcome to join us at Kickback Jacks located at 9318 W Broad St, Richmond, VA 23294. A group will be there by 8PM.
What are the values of the society?
The values of the society are fostering friendship, building community, and encouraging virtue, specifically through the sacraments of the Catholic Church.
Scholarship Fund
The Saint Ambrose Society scholarship is awarded annually to a rising college freshman in the Richmond diocese who submits an essay answering the questioning “what does it mean to be a good man and a good citizen in light of Catholic values?”
Community Development Award
Each year, the Saint Ambrose Society dedicates funds to support specific, tangible needs within local Catholic and civic organizations. The Community Development Award provides targeted assistance for clearly defined projects such as equipment, supplies, or program infrastructure, rather than general operating expenses. Our aim is practical and direct: strengthen the institutions that serve our community by helping them accomplish material goals that might otherwise go unfunded.
Family Bereavement Fund
The Saint Ambrose Society additionally maintains a Family Bereavement Fund to provide direct financial assistance to families in our community who are bearing funeral expenses. Each year, the Society sets aside dedicated funds specifically for this purpose, ensuring that support is available when it is most needed
What is a Citizen?
Citizens are members of the Saint Ambrose Society who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to the Society’s mission, the advancement of the Catholic faith in Richmond, and faithful stewardship toward their friends and community.
In structure, citizenship is similar to being a brother in a fraternity. It reflects full membership within the Society and carries both privileges and responsibilities. Citizens participate in the governance and long-term direction of the organization and are entrusted with preserving its standards and culture.
Can I become a Citizen?
Yes, Citizens are selected through a merit-based process that recognizes consistent participation, leadership, and embodiment of the Society’s values. Any interested individual should reach out to the First Consul.
What is the Mission of the Society?
“Make Richmond Milan” expresses the Society’s vision of fostering a vibrant Catholic culture in Richmond marked by strong institutions, serious friendship, and civic responsibility. Inspired by Milan’s legacy of Christian leadership, it reflects a long-term commitment to faith, formation, and building a flourishing local community.
Educational Support
The Saint Ambrose Society additionally supports Catholic education through its annual sponsorship of Oktoberfest, and direct educational awards to catholic schools.
